All major Canadian media already use the spelling of Kyiv, including:

The top expatriate newspaper in Ukraine is called the Kyiv Post: http://www.kyivpost.com/
And it has been spelled that way ever since it was founded over a decade ago. English-speaking foreigners who live in Ukraine have no doubt about what Kyiv’s proper English spelling is.
Also, the name of Ukraine’s top football club is Dynamo-Kyiv:
If you ever report on it are you going to say that this is Dynamo Kyiv club in Kiev? Why confuse your readers? Why not just switch to the Ukrainian spelling across the board?
